Gloria Joffe, a longtime resident, said she was thrilled to see that after years of debate and deliberation over redevelopment of the former Haverford State Hospital site, “they had the community in mind, and there’s going to be something for everyone.” – It seemed as though a long-held collective dream finally came true last Thursday, when a crowd of residents and public officials gathered to celebrate a grand opening of the township’s new Community Recreation and Environmental Center at Haverford Reserve.ĭraping the threshold to the new building was an enormous American flag, while inside, a two-story, 35,000- square-foot state-of-the-art facility, with walking track, health and wellness center, full-size gym and much more, beckoned.
